Pita Bread Crisps

Makes: 4 full oven trays from one 6 pack of large Lebanese breads.

These are super easy to make and serve with dips. They are also great to have as a light alternative to bread with soups.

Ingredients

  • 1 x 6 pack large Lebanese breads

  • 75 grams butter - melted

  • 2 cloves garlic - crushed

  • Sesame seeds - if using

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180’C

  2. Melt the butter and add the garlic

  3. Separate each of the Lebanese breads into 2 halves.  This is easiest done by gently pulling them apart at one spot on the margin and then gently tearing along the edge, so you end up with 2 equal flat circles of the bread.

  4. Working one piece at a time and using a pastry brush, gently coat the surface that would have been on the inside of the pocket of bread with butter

  5. Sprinkle with sesame seeds, if using

  6. Stack in a pile until all pieces of bread are coated

  7. Slice through the pile, first into 2 halves then continue until you have made 4 cuts across the middle, as if you were slicing a pizza

  8. Arrange the crisps in a single layer on a baking tray

  9. Put in the oven for 5 minutes or until crisp and golden brown

  10. Allow to cool on a wire rack

  11. Store in an airtight container
